Child Protection
These statements form the preamble to our child protection policy:
Mission Statement
1.1 Purpose of Caversham Evangelical Church
Caversham Evangelical Church (CEC), as set out in the CEC Constitution, is a body of people who confess the Lord Jesus Christ as God and Saviour and, under His authority and the guidance of the CEC church Elders, meet together in spiritual fellowship to hear the Word of God, to keep the ordinances of baptism and the Lord's Supper and to worship the triune God. It is a centre of witness through which the gospel is preserved and propagated.
1.2 Purpose of Children’s and Youth Work
CEC recognises the importance of ministry to children and young people. Because the Bible places a great emphasis on the whole family, children are routinely present at the church services and family social activities organised by CEC. These meetings are generally attended by families, with participation from a broad range of ages, including the children’s parents and other adults.
CEC also seeks to teach the Bible to children of CEC members and adherents, and to young people in the community through special Activity Group meetings appropriate to their age. This Child Protection Policy is aimed to address the needs and protection of children participating in these Activity Group meetings.
1.3 Purpose of the Child Protection Policy
CEC takes seriously its responsibility to safeguard the welfare of those children and young people entrusted to its care through participation in CEC’s Activity Groups. CEC desires to be transparent in its ministry and honouring to Christ in all things. This Policy has the following purposes:
It defines the policies and practices that are considered necessary to ensure the safety and welfare of children in its care;
It guides the conduct of all Children’s Workers, who are required to comply with its provisions;
It defines how all instances of suspected or alleged abuse will be addressed;
It informs and reassures parents, who may view it on request.
A key aspect in establishing the integrity of those who will serve as Children’s Workers is to conduct an Enhanced Disclosure on each worker through the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB). These Disclosures are best handled by a third party (umbrella) organisation on behalf of CEC.
